Gerald Alphin signed as a free agent with the LA Raiders of the NFL in 1986. After his release by the Raiders, Alphin joined Montreal in September, 1986. In his rookie season, Alphin played 6 games and had 20 catches for 409 yards and an excellent 20.5 yard average gain. Alphin signed with Ottawa as a free agent in 1987 and had his first of four thousand plus yards seasons with 67 catches for 1029 yards. In 1988, Alphin had another very good year with 64 catches 1307 yards and a 20.4 yard average to earn East All-Star honours at wide receiver. Alphin set career highs in catches (68) and yards (1471) in 1989. Alphin signed as a free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 1990, and then had a tryout with the Dallas Cowboys in 1992. Alphin returned to the CFL, signing as a free agent with Winnipeg after his release by Dallas. In his first full season back in 1993, Alphin had his fourth thousand yard season with 55 catches for 1052 yards. Alphin missed his fifth thousand yard season by only six yards in 1994, but did set a new career high with 73 catches. Alphin was released in September, 1995 after 9 games and 32 catches. The expansion Baltimore team signed Alphin, where he played in 4 games.
